1. Decide on Destination

Destination is key! It is better to choose somewhere that makes you feel at ease since traveling solo could already be an overwhelming experience. Is there a place that you always dreamt of visiting? Somewhere you always felt attracted to? Do you like cities bubbling with activities or prefer to lounge on the beach?

Those who feel a little anxious about traveling alone can start with familiar places while hard-core adventure seekers can even consider places abroad. Either way, your chosen destination should be a place that motivates you and keeps you excited.

2. The Best Part – Where To Stay

Where you stay can either add or take from from your overall experience, so making sure you chose the right accommodation is key. What constitutes the perfect hotel or air bnb is of course subjective, but generally speaking this could mean having access to a range of facilities for your comfort and ultimate relaxation. Depending on location and star rating, many top class hotels offer private beaches, world-class dining, spas and shopping experiences.

The best part is you get to quite literally pick exactly what you want, where you want..no questions asked!

3. What to Do

Travelling solo is a great time to enjoy activities that interest you – for example if you are a thrill seeker you can go zip lining or parasailing without needing to convince others to join you. Find ways to meet new people through group tours or group experiences. Some other great activities to do include going on an organised guided tour or going wine tasting as part of a small group.

4. Safety Tips
    • Always have copies of important documents stored either in an email or in paper format
    • Get a local SIM card if needed as soon as you arrive at your destination. Make sure you also have emergency numbers saved, and always keep your phone charged with a power bank
    • Avoid posting photos in real-time, it’s best to post after you leave the location to be safe
    • Have your cash and cards between different bags, and leave some at the hotel. Avoid carrying all of your money and cards with you when it is not completely necessary
    • If possible, book your departure and arrival times during daylight hours to avoid transiting at night
5. Definitely Avoid
    • Being unprepared
    • Having rigid plans
